What
is Halitosis ( Bad Breath )?
Let's first explain
what halitosis is. Halitosis is the technical name for
bad breath. According to the ADA, chronic bad breath
effects millions of people each year. If you are one of
the one's who are effected by this condition then you
know how embarrassing it can be and how it may effect you
self-conscience around others. In most cases bad breath
is caused by the breakdown of food or other particles in
the mouth or poor oral hygiene. When these particles
breakdown and decay in your mouth they release a sulfur
compound that is the tell-tale sign of bad breath.

Can
bad breath be caused by other problems?
Halitosis can be
caused by other medical conditions also, including
infections, gum disease ( gingivitus ), tooth decay,
diabetes, kindney failure, or liver malfunction. It can
also be caused by sinus problems, xerostomia ( dry mouth
), and smoking. Additional sources include dieting,
smoking, age, stress, snoring, and hormonal changes.
Cancer patients may notice an increase of bad breath due
to dry mouth associated with taking radiation therapy.
Some instances may be caused by compounds originating
from the stomach but are considered rare.
Why
is saliva so important in fighting bad breath?
Saliva
is like your mouth's shower. It helps to continually wash
away the bacteria and particles that promote bad breath.
If you've ever notice that your breath smells the worst
in the morning (hence the term morning breath) it is
caused by the fact that your mouth normally dries out at
night letting the bacteria to flourish and grow. To
combat morning breath make sure you eat breakfast and
then brush your teeth thoroughly as fasting has been
attributed to bad breath.
Can
certain foods can help contribute to bad breath?
Foods
that are very spicy like onions, garlic, horseradish and
beverages like coffee may be detected on someones breath
for many hours after digestion. They get absorbed and
then can be excreted through your lungs.
Does
regular brushing and flossing help combat bad breath?
A
daily regimen of thorough brushing and flossing is highly
recommended for proper oral hygiene. Regular visits to
your dentist is also recommended to get your teeth
cleaned. Scrapping of your tongue with a proper tongue
scaper can help remove loose particles and bacteria.
Using flavored mouthwashes may mask the symptons
temporary but will not solve the underlying issues
causing your condition. You must treat the source of the
problem to get rid of bad breath.
Are
there ways to eliminating my bad breath quickly and
inexpensively?

symptoms of bad breath and curing it fast and naturally.
Two that I have found are www.banishbadbreath.com and www.badbreathcure.com . Both
